Gerry Alexander, the former West Indies captain, has died at the age of 82 in Jamaica.Alexander was a wicketkeeper-batsman who represented West Indies in 25 Tests in a five-year career that began in 1957. He led the side in 18 of those matches, beginning with a home series against Pakistan in 1958 and stepping down after England’s visit in 1960.”He [Alexander] was a stalwart in Jamaica and West Indies cricket and made a tremendous contribution to the game as captain and a player on the field. He was an inspiration to many people off the field as well,” Julian Hunte, the WICB president, said. “He displayed a true love and passion for West Indies cricket and gave his all for the good of the game. He was a dignified and reliable leader of the West Indies team and a committed supporter of the game at all levels. He excelled in the 1960-61 Tied Test Series in Australia and will always be remembered for the fantastic role he played to help ‘save Test cricket’.”At a time when the West Indies and the world beyond it were undergoing great social change, Alexander was the last white captain of the team. He was replaced first temporarily and then permanently by Frank Worrell in time for the legendary 1960-61 series in Australia, which featured Test cricket’s first tie at Brisbane.Prior to that he courted controversy by choosing to send home the fast bowler Roy Gilchrist from the West Indies’ 1958-59 tour of India and Pakistan for reasons of indiscipline, including the bowling of repeated beamers. Gilchrist did not play for the West Indies again.In his final series as captain, before being succeeded by Worrell, Alexander equalled the record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a series with 23 victims against England. He followed that up by supporting Worrell grandly with 484 runs at 60.50 in the 1960-61 series, scoring at least one half-century in each of the matches and his only first-class century in the third Test at the SCG, won by the West Indies. Alexander finished his Test career at the conclusion of the series with 961 runs at 30.03, and 90 dismissals.Away from cricket, Alexander studied and worked as a veterinarian, rising to the position of chief public sector veterinarian in his homeland.In 1982, he received the Order of Distinction from the Government of Jamaica for his outstanding contribution to sports. He was also a skilled footballer, winning an England amateur cap and an FA Amateur Cup winner’s medal.

وقال مرتضي منصور لأحمد سيد زيزو: “لماذا لم تحصل على جائزة أفضل لاعب في المباراة؟”، ليرد زيزو: “دخلت غرفة الملابس لكي أخذ (شاور)، ولا يوجد أحد أعطاني تعليمات لكي لا أحصل على الجائزة”.

وكان زيزو حصل علي جائزة أفضل لاعب في مباراة الزمالك وحرس الحدود التي أقيمت في منافسات الجولة الثامنة من عمر الدوري المصري الممتاز، حسمها الأبيض لصالحة برباعية نظيفة.

وأتم: “محمد عواد أغلى حارس مرمى في التاريخ، رئيس نادي الإسماعيلي في ذلك التوقيت قال لي أترك لي مصطفى محمد ومدبولي ودونجا ويريد الحصول على 30 مليون جنيه، قلت له: (تعالى خد فيلاتي)”.

Foi acima do esperado no clássico, o entendimento foi ótimo, demos sequência e está indo muito bem. A chegada do Roger dá opção a mais, até para rodar, segurar o Rodriguinho ou o Jadson em algum jogo – analisou Carille.

– É muito importante essa opção, até a montagem passa por um jogador dessa característica. Se não tem um centroavante, a minha bola aérea fica muito ruim. Até por isso a escolha pelo Ralf em vez do Gabriel em alguns jogos. Todo técnico vai querer sempre muito mais, e eu também sempre vou querer. Mas entre querer mais e ficar lamentando, eu deixo de lamentar, vou com esse grupo que acredito bastante – acrescentou o treinador.

Aos 33 anos, Roger assinou contrato com o Corinthians até o fim de 2019. Como estava trabalhando normalmente no Inter, o atacante está bem fisicamente para ficar à disposição para o jogo de domingo. Despite the threat of two players skipping the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in Hong Kong over non-payment of a bonus promised by USACA, the USA squad departed as scheduled on Saturday morning from JFK Airport in New York. The only player missing was Rashard Marshall, who was excused due to a death in his wife’s family according to USACA vice president of operations Manaf Mohamed. Marshall is reportedly in Trinidad and will leave on Monday to join the squad for the tournament which starts on January 22.Two anonymous players had told ESPNcricinfo last week that they were considering staying home unless they received an overdue bonus for winning Division Four in Italy last August. Everyone came to the airport, even though it is understood that the bonus still hasn’t been paid.USA coach Clayton Lambert is hoping the team will now be able to focus on the task at hand, finishing in the top two to advance to Division Two in the UAE this April.”For us, it’s all about playing well,” Lambert said. “Once we play as a team, there’s no infighting; everybody kind of rallies around each other. Most of our guys have a bit of first class or international experience so that helps. All we need to really do is go and execute because our talent-level can match any team that is in this particular Division Three. A third-wicket partnership of 29 between Watkins and Sara McGlashan took New Zealand to 62 before Watkins was dismissed. That triggered a collapse as New Zealand lost seven wickets for 60 runs. Debutant Sarah Coyte picked up two middle-order wickets and was involved in two run-outs as New Zealand managed to reach a below-par 122 for 9.Australia got off to a solid start, reaching 38 for 1 in just under six overs. Shelley Nitschke was run out on the same score and Australia lost momentum after that. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at 79 for 6, it looked like New Zealand would defend their total. However, an unbeaten 44-run partnership for the seventh wicket between wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy (28) and Coyte (14) carried Australia home. Australia now lead the eight-match Rose Bowl series, that comprises five Twenty20 and three ODIs, 1-0. The first Twenty20 in Hamilton was abandoned due to rain.
