Rangers play host to Dundee United at Ibrox this afternoon as the Glasgow giants look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premiership table.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are the leaders of the division as it stands and are currently four points clear of their arch-rivals in second.

The Gers beat St Johnstone 2-0 in their last league outing in midweek as Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent struck to seal the three points.

How many team changes will Van Bronckhorst make for today? Here is our predicted XI…

We are predicting that he will make three alterations to the side, with Nathan Patterson, Juninho Bacuna and Fashion Sakala coming in.

In terms of individual performances, Van Bronckhorst does not have any major selection headaches going into this match. Every single player in the starting XI registered a SofaScore rating of 7.2 or higher in midweek, suggesting that no-one deserves to be dropped because of their display.

However, one change which could be enforced upon the 46-year-old comes at left-back. Borna Barisic came off after feeling unwell against St Johnstone and he could be omitted today in a protective measure.

This could allow Patterson to start at left-back, with Calvin Bassey’s recent form meaning that he should retain his place at centre-back instead of moving to the left of the back four. Van Bronckhorst could opt to switch the 21-year-old to his more natural position and bring in someone like Jack Simpson, but the former’s displays in the middle have been too good and he should be kept where he is for now, opening the door for Patterson to start at full-back.

The other two changes we are predicting are simple cases of rotation, with the Dutchman handing opportunities to some players whilst allowing others to catch a breather after the relentless nature of the recent fixture schedule.

Firstly, Bacuna could come in for Scott Arfield. We published an article explaining why the Dutch-born 24-year-old deserves a start to show what he can do with a chunk of minutes in the first team, giving the experienced Canadian a break ahead of Boxing Day.

Finally, we are predicting that Sakala will come in for Ianis Hagi on the right wing. The Zambian has eight goals and one assist in his last 10 games for club and country and only got 22 minutes of action against St Johnstone, a rest which could lead to a start today.

West Bromwich Albion have been heavily linked with extremely active in the January transfer window, in an effort to claw back victories in the Championship, score more goals and ultimately get promoted back to the Premier League next season.

What’s the story?

Valerien Ismael has confirmed that he met with the West Bromwich Albion transfer committee this week, and has spoken out about the plans for January:

“We expect something to happen,” the Baggies boss said. “We are working behind the scenes and have a plan in place. We are ready and expect incomings and outgoings.

“We have spoken a lot. We had a meeting this week and know exactly what we can do, so it’s a good feeling.

“It’s maybe the chance to bring another fresh player with another mentality. We need to find the right balance between what we can do and what is available on the market and who is able to play straight away to help us.”

What next for West Brom?

There has been a lot of rumours surrounding the signing of a striker for the Baggies, which is an area of the team that could be causing the side to fall behind in the league table, with Fulham at the top scoring 21 more goals already this season and second place Bournemouth seven goals ahead of Albion’s 30 goal tally.

Thus, to hear that Albion will be active in the winter market will surely leave supporters buzzing.

It’s very clear that West Brom are in a position where the January transfer window could either make or break their chances of promotion back to the Premier League this season, and clearly, Ismael is aware of that too, with a lack of goals scored compared to their competitors for the top of the table, a striker seems to be the prime target.

The pressure seems to have slightly eased off the West Brom manager, who had sacking rumours circulating before the two wins that the Baggies have picked up in succession over the last fortnight, but he will need to do more to make sure the side is in good shape going into the second half of the season.

Newcastle United are reportedly now interested in signing Wout Weghorst in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Underrated?

Weghorst may not be a name that jumps out immediately on paper, but he seems to be one of the most underrated strikers in European football, at least according to the Bundesliga website.

Former Wolsfburg manager Oliver Glasner even went as far as to claim that Weghorst is ‘the most dangerous player in front of goal’ that he has ever coached, while fellow Dutch player Michel Vlap has credited him as having an ‘unbelievable drive’.

Nonetheless, his goal record speaks for itself, with a total of 164 goals scored for both club and country at youth and senior level combined, and at 29 years of age, is now at the peak of his powers.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

As per Kicker, the St. James’ Park faithful are now interested in signing Weghorst next month.

The news outlet are predicting that he will have ‘an offer on the table in the next few weeks’, and that could be from the North East club, while he is not expected to stay beyond the summer at least.

The Verdict: Get it done

With a monster six-foot-six frame, Weghorst would be a threat for any team in the Premier League, due to his aerial threat in both boxes, emphasised by the 2.4 aerial duels that he wins per game in the Bundesliga, the joint-fourth most out of any of his teammates, and up there with the central defenders at the club (WhoScored).

The Netherlands international would certainly offer an exciting alternative to Callum Wilson, whose six goals in total over all competitions so far this season are by far the most out of any Magpies player, and so Weghorst would help ease the burden off of him, given his goalscoring record.

Nonetheless, while their defence may be leaky, ultimately goals win football matches, and Weghorst would certainly provide them.

O Vasco começou a preparação para a partida contra o Flamengo, pela 31ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro, na tarde desta segunda-feira. Seguindo planejamento da comissão técnica, os jogadores reservas trabalharam em São Januário, enquanto os titulares ganharam mais um dia de descanso.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly a big admirer of Reading midfielder John Swift, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

What’s the story?

According to the well-respected journalist, the Whites’ enigmatic boss has been keeping close tabs on the 26-year-old for some time ahead of a possible move in the upcoming January transfer window.

“Bielsa has liked Swift for a while,” Hay wrote in a match discussion Q&A on The Athletic. “It’s a difficult question because deep down you question whether Swift improves Leeds long term, but they’re not going to be able to spend big next month, and maybe some pragmatism is a good idea.”

Swift’s current contract at the Madejski Stadium is set to expire next summer, and with the Royals hovering above the Championship relegation zone, an imminent exit could be on the cards.

Leeds fans will be buzzing

The attack-minded midfielder has been linked with several top-flight clubs in recent weeks as he approaches the end of his deal with Reading, and his agent previously addressed the speculation surrounding Swift’s potential move to Leeds.

“There’s been a lot of speculation in the media about different Premiership clubs being interested in John,” he said. “At the moment, his sole focus is on playing for Reading and doing the best he can with them.

“Leeds United is a great club and their style of play, manager, and fans would be good for John moving forward in his career. However, no formal approaches have been made that we are aware of by Leeds to Reading at this stage.”

When taking a closer look at Swift’s credentials, it’s little surprise to see the former England under-21 international edging back towards the Premier League.

Following a 2-1 win over Preston North End back in August, Royals manager Veljko Paunovic called his talisman “super talented”, and it’s hard to argue with the 44-year-old’s assessment.

Since arriving at Reading, Swift has become one of the Championship’s star performers, bagging 31 goals and laying on a further 34 assists in 184 appearances.

He has elevated his game to new heights this term. In 20 outings for Paunovic’s charges, the £25k-per-week dynamo has notched eight goals and provided nine assists, highlighting his top-class potential.

Therefore, a large section of Leeds fans will surely be delighted at Hay’s latest revelation, and Swift could provide the spark needed to fire the Whites to safety.

Em uma atividade em campo reduzido, o tecnico do Palmeiras separou o elenco em três equipes, cada uma com um setor possivelmente titular (defesa, meio-campo e ataque).

O time de colete vermelho tinha a provável defesa titular: Mayke, Luan, Juninho e Zé Roberto, além de Bruno Henrique, Raphael Veiga, Keno e Hyoran. A equipe de colete azul era aquela com o meio-campo que deve começar o clássico, com Jean, Tchê Tchê e Moisés, junto de Thiago Santos, Antônio Carlos, Egídio, Erik e Borja. Por fim, o ataque com Dudu, Deyverson e Róger Guedes foi escalado com Fabiano, Pedrão (zagueiro do sub-20), Felipe Melo, Augusto (zagueiro do sub-20) e Guerra.

Egídio está fora da próxima rodada, suspenso, assim como Edu Dracena – o zagueiro só foi a campo para a reunião com comissão técnica e diretoria antes do treino, e depois fez atividades física na parte interna. Nos seus lugares, Luan e Zé Roberto devem ser escalados.

Róger Guedes, que tem feito bons treinos na semana, participou da movimentação do ataque titular, mas porque Willian não treinou. O atacante viajou ao Rio de Janeiro (RJ) para participar de seu julgamento no STJD, e como recebeu apenas um jogo de gancho, já cumprido, deve entrar nessa vaga.

O possível Palmeiras para o clássico da 26ª rodada do Brasileiro, portanto, tem: Fernando Prass; Mayke, Luan, Juninho e Zé Roberto; Jean, Tchê Tchê e Moisés; Dudu, Willian e Deyverson.

Com 43 pontos, o Verdão vem de quatro partidas sem derrota no campeonato – três vitórias e um empate. Por enquanto, a distância para o líder, Corinthians, é de 11 pontos, e as chances do bicampeonato, segundo o matemático Tristão Garcia, são de 6%.
