Em treino sem a presença da imprensa, na manhã deste sábado, Dorival Júnior já começou a testar opções para solucionar a que deve ser sua única dúvida na escalação contra o Grêmio, na segunda-feira, no Morumbi: o substituto de Wellington Nem, provável desfalque por dores no ombro direito. Lucas Fernandes e Marcinho disputam a vaga.

Na atividade tática desta manhã, segundo divulgação do São Paulo, o treinador montou a equipe com 12 jogadores. Lucas Fernandes e Marcinho se juntaram aRenan Ribeiro, Bruno, Arboleda, Rodrigo Caio, Edimar, Jucilei, Petros, Jonatan Gomes, Cueva e Pratto, titulares na vitória por 1 a 0 sobre o Vasco, na quarta-feira.

Wellington Nem dificilmente terá condições de entrar em campo. O atacante sofreu um trauma no ombro direito e precisou ser substituído aos 20 minutos de jogo. Desde então, realiza fisioterapia para tratar o local e são bem remotas as possibilidades de estar liberado a tempo do jogo das 20 horas de segunda-feira, no Morumbi.

Na quarta-feira, Marcinho foi escolhido para substituir o jogador e atuou boa parte do jogo pela esquerda, mudando o meia Jonatan Gomez para o outro lado e ajudando o lateral-esquerdo Edimar a segurar o Vasco. Por sua aplicação tática, Marcinho era um dos preferidos de Rogério Ceni, chegando a virar ala pela direita com o ex-técnico, e fez gol na estreia de Dorival Júnior no clube, contra o Atlético-GO. Atuou em todos os 15 jogos do time no Brasileiro.

Lucas Fernandes, por sua vez, vem ganhando espaço e esteve em campo nas últimas cinco rodadas da competição. Aos 19 anos, o meia tem recebido elogios por sua participação depois de sofrer seguidas lesões na temporada passada e é frequentemente um dos destaques dos treinamentos comandados por Dorival Júnior.

A definição da escalação ocorrerá na tarde deste domingo, em novo treinamento sem a presença dos jornalistas no CT da Barra Funda, quando devem ser divulgados os relacionados para a partida contra o Grêmio. O São Paulo encerrou na quarta-feira uma sequência de nove jogos sem vitória, mas segue na zona de rebaixamento do Campeonato Brasileiro.

Entre os reforços que chegaram recentemente, o zagueiro Aderllan, que se apresentou no CT da Barra Funda há oito dias, treinou normalmente com o elenco novamente neste sábado e, depois,fez uma atividade específica com os preparadores físicos. À tarde, realizará um trabalho complementar no Reffis.

Já o meia Hernanes, que desembarcou da China nessa sexta-feira, e o meia-atacante Marcos Guilherme, que estava no Dínamo Zagreb, da Croácia, ainda não trabalharam no CT. Farão exames médicos no começo da próxima semana para ficarem à disposição da comissão técnica. Não há previsão de estreia para nenhum dos dois.

Emprestado por um ano pelo Hebei Fortune, da China, Hernanes está com sua documentação regularizada. Já Marcos Guilherme, que tem vínculo com o Atlético-PR e assinou com o Tricolor um contrato de 18 meses, deve ter seu nome publicado no BID (Boletim Informativo Diário) da CBF nos próximos dias.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts insists that the club are in real danger of failing to win a Premier League game for the foreseeable future, following their derby day disaster.

The club have endured an inconsistent start to the season and actually opened their campaign with three wins on the trot, beating Manchester City, Wolves, and Watford.

Those results saw Nuno Espirito Santo win the Manager of the Month award in the Premier League and have since lost 3-0 to both Crystal Palace and Chelsea, before Sunday’s 3-1 reverse against Arsenal in the North London Derby.

Next up, Santo’s men play Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United in the top-flight.

Villa beat Manchester United 1-0 at the weekend; Newcastle have ground out draws against Leeds United and Watford in recent weeks, while West Ham United have only lost once this term, to the Red Devils, and that loss only came about as a result of a missed penalty in added time from Mark Noble.

Roberts is concerned that the form of Spurs’ next few opponents means that it is difficult to see when Spurs will next record a win in the top-flight.

Roberts said: “You’ve got Aston Villa who are flying at the moment, you’ve got Man United, Newcastle, West Ham and I think Everton.

“You’re looking at it and thinking, ‘the way we’re playing, when’s the next three points coming from?’ I’m being serious.”

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has revealed that Leeds United defender Luke Ayling is among a number of players who will be missing from tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Fulham.

What’s the story?

Writing on Twitter, the journalist revealed: “A lot of absentees at Fulham tonight – Koch, Llorente, Ayling, Harrison etc. Bamford took that knock in the second half at Newcastle so not expecting him to play. Forshaw has a chance of featuring though. #lufc”

This was then confirmed by the club’s official website, which posted: “Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling will both miss tonight’s Carabao Cup game with Fulham following injuries picked up in Friday night’s match against Newcastle United.

“Bamford has an ankle injury, whilst Ayling was withdrawn with a knee injury. Both will continue rehabilitation at Thorp Arch before Saturday’s Premier League game against West Ham United at Elland Road.”

Bielsa will be worried

While Ayling being ruled out for a third round Carabao Cup clash away at Championship side Fulham is hardly likely to have Bielsa sweating buckets, the Leeds manager will certainly be worried about how significant the 30-year-old’s injury is going forward.

With Llorente, Koch and Struijk all out either through injury or suspension, centre-back has suddenly become an area of real concern for Bielsa after initially being a position of strength.

Whilst he may not be the most glamorous or eye-catching name on the team-sheet, there’s no questioning that Ayling has been one of the manager’s most trusted lieutenants over the past couple of seasons.

The £45k-a-week ace played the full 90 minutes in every single Premier League game last season bar one, and even that was when Bielsa took him off to try and find a goal in the last 20 minutes against ten-man Arsenal.

Ayling also wore the captain’s armband on 12 occasions last year, and his leadership at the back is something the Whites could desperately use when you consider that other first-choice defenders such as Llorente, Koch and Struijk are also ruled out.

Described as a “great technician”, his presence in the side cannot be underestimated, with Bielsa saying after Leeds’ 3-0 victory over Aston Villa back in late October that the right-back “transmitted serenity to the rest of the team”.

The Leeds boss even once said that Ayling was someone “who can solve any problem”, and that’s exactly why Hay’s update is a body blow for Bielsa and the club.

The emotions which will be flooding through Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou’s mind right now after their Thursday defeat must be overwhelming.

In the build-up to that match, the Hoops suffered the frustration of a number of injuries to first-team players but then they took a surprising 2-0 lead against Real Betis.

What followed was more disaster, however, as they eventually lost 4-3 in a dramatic encounter in Spain.

The solution

As a consequence, we think that the manager should move Josip Juranovic into his favoured role at right-back against Livingston on Sunday afternoon.

He looks extremely limited on the left-hand side, and with Greg Taylor set to undergo shoulder surgery, we hope that Liam Scales is finally unleashed.

The Irishman signed for Celtic late in the transfer window and is yet to earn a single minute of action since arriving from Shamrock Rovers.

However, he boasts phenomenal versatility and can play on the left wing, as well in his more favoured roles as a centre-back or left-back.

It’s in that final position that he must play this weekend.

Standing at 6 foot 2, he is a colossal figure for a full-back and should provide the Hoops with more physicality and a bigger presence in that third of the pitch.

Incredibly adept defensively, Celtic wouldn’t lose any of their attacking threat by playing Scales either.

A review from Collie O’Neill, his former manager at UCD paints a vivid picture of his qualities. He said: “Liam likes to get forward. It’s not often you have guys on the wing who are tall and attacking, but when he gets going into his stride, he’s quick and strong. He can just whip past people.

“So, for me, left back would be his best position. Attacking strength is the one thing he’s very good at.”

By moving Juranovic to the right, it provides Celtic with more quality, but vitally, the addition of Scales on the left would give the team increased balance compared to their defensive horror show in midweek.

واستكمل: “العمل مع رونالدو في منتهى السلاسة والمرونة، عملت مع لاعبين كرة كثيرين جدًا، وكل واحد منهم له طريقة مختلفة عن الثاني، هناك لاعبون يأكلون مكرونة كثيرا وكربوهيدرات ولكن رونالدو لا”.

وتابع: “تعاقدي مع رونالدو يمنعني عن الحديث عن أي شيء بشأن حياته الخاصة، لا يوجد لاعب يأكل مثل رونالدو لأن كل لاعب يأكل بشكل مختلف عن الثاني”.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان محمد صلاح يسير بشكل منظم في نظام التغذية، رد بارون: “لا أعرف محمد صلاح بشكل قوي، أعرفه من خلال التلفزيون، هو لاعب كبير جدًا، أعتقد أنه يأكل بشكل جيد جدًا لأنني أرى جسمه قوي جدًا، قوة رونالدو تأتي من التدريبات الكثيرة جدًا وليس تناول الطعام الصحي فقط”.

Vida de goleiro não é fácil, mas às vezes há boas recompensas. Nesta sexta-feira, o jovem Cleiton, de 19 anos, foi o herói da conquista da Copa do Brasil Sub-20 pelo Atlético-MG. Ele defendeu três pênaltis na disputa da marca da cal, contra o Flamengo, na Ilha do Urubu. Antes, porém, teve de ouvir as provocações de costume contra os visitantes, como em qualquer estádio do país.

– Este momento dos pênaltis é hora de concentrar. Não dei atenção para a torcida, não me abalei e fui feliz. Tenho muito orgulho de vestir esta camisa do Atlético-MG, um dos maiores clubes do mundo. Espero ainda dar muita alegria e felicidade para os atleticanos – disse o garoto ao LANCE!.

The return of Christopher Jullien will be a ‘massive’ boost for a Celtic side who look like they’re ‘missing a leader’.

That’s according to former Scotland full-back Alan Hutton, who was speaking to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Julien has been out of action since the end of December 2020 with a knee injury. It’s ruled him out of 34 matches to date.

Speaking midway through last month, manager Ange Postecoglou said that Jullien was ‘still very much on an individual programme’ and insisted Celtic were being ‘careful’.

It will be ‘a little while’ before he’s back in contention, the Australian added.

Celtic have managed to keep four clean sheets in their first 11 competitive matches of the new campaign.

Hutton says the partnership of Stephen Welsh and Carl Starfelt is unconvincing, with the former inexperienced and the latter struggling to ‘find his feet’.

He expects the composed Jullien to elevate the defence when he does eventually return.

“They must be desperate to have him back,” the former Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa man said. “I think they’re missing a leader at the moment in that centre-half pairing.

“Welsh has come in and done really well, but he’s young.

“Starfelt has only just walked through the door, he’s not found his feet yet after a difficult time at the start of the season.

“They need a calm head back there, so Celtic will be desperate for Jullien to come back.

“He’s played in those high-pressure games, and he can help bring on the centre-backs around him with his experience as well.

“He’ll be a massive part of this Celtic side, and when he’s fit he’ll come straight back in.”

The verdict

Celtic’s centre-back ranks have been doubly weakened with Jullien sidelined and Kristoffer Ajer transferred to Brentford for an initial £13.5million back in July. Those two formed a reassuring partnership.

After such a serious injury, there may also be concerns that Jullien will struggle to recapture his former levels.

It’s key for Celtic’s domestic, and indeed European, ambitions that he’s fit and firing soon.
