Tottenham Hotspur: Predicted XI to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in final Premier League game

Tottenham Hotspur face Crystal Palace this afternoon in what could be Jan Vertonghen’s final game for the club.

After thumping Leicester City 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs know they must win at Selhurst Park and hope their bitter rivals Chelsea beat Wolves to qualify for the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho has named an unchanged side for the victories over Leicester, Arsenal and Newcastle, but he may have to call in a couple of replacements at this late stage in the competition.

Vertonghen and Michael Vorm are expected to bid farewell to the club after 14 years of service between them in north London.

If Spurs beat the Eagles, they will usurp Wolves in the race for the European competition should Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lose to the Blues, although seventh could be enough to clinch a place in the Europa League if Chelsea also beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

Football Transfer Tavern have worked on a predicted starting lineup for Spurs, which sees Mourinho make two changes to the side that thrashed Leicester at home.

Barring the 3-1 victory over Newcastle United, Spurs have started their biggest victories in recent weeks in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and it is unlikely that Mourinho will want to switch from his preferred system at such a crucial stage in the competition.

Dele Alli is in contention to start for the first time since the 2-o win against West Ham last month. He has missed the past five games with a hamstring injury but trained with the first team this week and should slot back into the side today, with Moussa Sissoko dropping to the bench in his place.

Alli’s return could see Giovani Lo Celso slot in alongside Harry Winks, with the pair forming a key part of the supply chain for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Eric Dier will also be available for selection after serving a four-match ban. However, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez have looked solid at the back in recent weeks, and Dier may miss out for the time being.

Meanwhile, Lucas Moura started the game against Leicester before being replaced by Steven Bergwijn. Bergwijn could be in line to earn his first start since the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, as he has developed a habit for scoring goals in big games. Indeed, he scored on his home debut against Manchester City in February, as well as opening the scoring against Manchester United last month.

Spurs should be full of confidence heading into the clash, as Palace have lost their last seven games, while Mourinho’s men enter the fixture unbeaten in their last five since a harrowing 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United. However, they cannot afford to slip up at Selhurst Park, as there is so much at stake.

Leeds must reunite Marcelo Bielsa with Michy Batshuayi

According to Get French Football News, Michy Batshuayi has been offered to Leeds United this summer.

What’s the word?

The Whites are looking forward to their long-awaited return to the Premier League, and Victor Orta will surely be busy behind the scenes to ensure Marcelo Bielsa’s side are in the best possible shape for next month.

Is it Haaland Snr or David Hopkins? Your Leeds knowledge will be put to the test with this quiz…

And as per GFFN, Leeds are being “bombarded” by several French agents offering their clients to the club, with Batshuayi being one of a number of players who have been put forward to Orta this summer.

Reunion with Marcelo Bielsa

One of the biggest reasons why Leeds should seriously consider bringing in Batshuayi to Elland Road, is that Bielsa has worked with the Belgium international previously.

The duo were together at French side Marseille, and it was there that the striker really looked transformed under the Argentine’s leadership. He scored ten times in 29 games across all competitions for Bielsa, and the 26-year-old himself has since spoken highly about how the manager knew how to get the best out of him.

He said: “He didn’t speak to me, he never spoke to me. I worked like crazy, but he didn’t talk to me. And yet he always took other people to talk to them. In fact, it is all or nothing. Either he picks you up and talks to you for 40 minutes, or he doesn’t talk to you at all.

“But looking back, I tell myself he knew who to do this with. Some needed this support. Me, he understood my personality, he knew that I could draw on my resources.”

Hailed as a “real goal-scorer” by his former manager at Borussia Dortmund, Peter Stoger, Batshuayi would bring with him some much-needed Premier League experience from his time at the likes of Chelsea and Crystal Palace. And with his previous connection to Bielsa, Orta must surely seize this perfect chance to sign him this summer.

A number of Manchester City fans gave their approval to a rumoured new away shirt for next season which was leaked online.

Footy Headlines posted images of the proposed away kit for 2020/21 from Puma, with the design also shared on Twitter via @City_Xtra.

As per Footy Headlines [via Manchester Evening News], the shirt is predominantly navy blue and features architectural designs on the torso which are apparently a nod to the Castlefield area of the city of Manchester. The club crest and sponsors’ logos appear to be in a shade of pink.

The latest kit leak for the Premier League champions comes just a few short weeks after a rumoured home shirt for 2020/21 was published by Footy Headlines, who also shared images of a leaked third kit for next season which subsequently drew a negative reaction from many supporters.

Manchester City switched their kit designer to Puma from Nike last year and have a 10-year partnership with the German brand which is set to run until 2029 (as per Manchester Evening News).

These City fans on Twitter were impressed with the leaked away shirt, with one supporter believing it is the “best of the lot”:

Leeds fans debate ex-star Kemar Roofe

Leeds United fans have been left torn by their former striker Kemar Roofe on social media this week after one account asked if they would have him back if the opportunity over arose.

The 27-year-old was sold to Belgian top-flight outfit Anderlecht in the summer for £7m after three seasons in west Yorkshire.

Roofe has bagged seven goals in just 16 appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side this term before injury struck. He was well on track to surpass the 15 goals from 34 matches achieved in his final season at Elland Road.

However, despite being a goalscoring presence in attack for Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites side, the Englishman has divided opinion over whether or not he would be welcome back at the club.

Some have deemed him not good enough for the Premier League whilst others are drooling over the thought of having Roofe back upfront.

Arsenal: Mikel Arteta provides positive update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Since football has returned, there have been transfer rumours suggesting that Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will look to leave the club as his contract runs out next summer, although manager Mikel Arteta has reassured Gunners fans that this might not be the case.

Speaking about the Gabon forward and his future at the club via Evening Standard, Arteta said: “Players that can make the difference in any moment in the game every three days in competitions. That is a big task and he has done that at different clubs.

“He is willing to stay with us. He is really happy where he is. He can see what we are trying to do and hopefully he can evolve as well some parts of his game he might feel he can improve. We are pushing him every day.”

Aubameyang showed how crucial he is to the Arsenal squad with his 9.2 Man of the Match rating against Norwich yesterday, per SofaScore, as he helped himself to two goals and an assist in the 4-0 win over the Canaries.

He also scored his 50th Premier League goal for the club in 79 appearances, with some quick to point out on Twitter that he has reached this landmark in fewer appearances than some Gunners legends like Thierry Henry and Ian Wright.

This emphasises how reassuring Arteta’s update seeems for everyone associated with Arsenal. Aubameyang is a potent striker who, at 31, still has more years in him to help the Gunners battle for the Champions League places again and hopefully win some silverware.

He is also an ideal figure to have in the squad as an influence for young strikers breaking into the senior squad like Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli, who can look to the Gabon ace for inspiration on honing their raw talents to become strikers of similar prestige to Aubameyang.

Tottenham Hotspur: Footage of wonder-kid Yago Santiago divides Spurs fans

Tottenham Hotspur wonder-kid Yago Santiago has posted a video of himself scoring a cool finish during training via his official Twitter account, prompting discussion amongst the fan base.

Santiago joined the Spurs academy at the beginning of the season from his hometown club Celta Vigo.

The midfielder bagged 15 goals for the Celts’ U-16s in the campaign beforehand and his eye-catching performances attracted plenty of interest.

While he might not be the first name that springs to mind at the moment, the 17-year-old has given a small sneak peek of what he has to offer.

Prior to the nationwide lockdown, the Spaniard made 10 appearances in the U-18’s Premier League, picking up one goal before football was suspended due to the ongoing pandemic (Transfermarkt).

If the clip is anything to go by, Santiago has definitely shown he knows how to find the back of the net.

The youngster’s footage has divided the Lilywhites faithful though, as a fan tweeted his “first touch was terrible,” while another dubbed the teenager a “baller.” One supporter even suggested he is the “next Fabregas.”

Take a look at some of the mixed reactions down below…

Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Oliver Skipp’s display vs Holland

But speaking of the future and what it holds for this squad, Spurs do seem to have plenty of young players who are just waiting to emerge on the scene if and when they are given the chance to do so.

One such talent is definitely their 19-year-old defensive midfielder, Oliver Skipp.

The young player recently took part in England’s U21 clash with the Netherlands and it seems that he has managed to impress many of Tottenham Hotspur fans in the process.

They were quick to shower him with praise, comparing him to the likes of Luka Modric and Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham fans think Giovani Lo Celso could be the man to kickstart their season

Giovani Lo Celso is set for a return from injury and some Spurs fans think he could be the solution to some of their problems.

The Argentine arrived in north London off the back of a season in which he scored 16 and assisted six, and as such there is some expectation on him to perform for the Lilywhites.

He arrived on loan but there is an option to make the move permanent – likely for a substantial fee given a price of £65m was rumoured – and that will only add to the pressure on him to deliver, which he has so far been unable to do because of his injury issues.

As a result, he has played just 44 minutes for his new side, though he could get a chance to return against Red Star Belgrade.

Supporters will hope that he begins to show the best of what he has to offer soon with other creative midfielders such as Christian Eriksen performing way below par, and some think the former Real Betis man is exactly what the team needs.

Here are some of the reactions from fans who think Lo Celso is the answer.

Exclusive: John Hartson urges Man United to appoint a director of football

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, John Hartson has talked up the major benefits a director of football would have at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have come under heavy fire for their scatter-gun approach to the transfer market in recent years, with players of vastly different profiles being signed under various managers.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

It is a policy that has unquestionably led to the mess Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently attempting to fix, and Hartson has suggested appointing a director of football would help bring a sense of control and decisiveness to the club.

He told Football FanCast: “Get a director of football in, somebody very experienced, somebody who’s done the job before and not an ex-player. Somebody who’s maybe managed before. Just to go in and help Solskjaer and oversee one or two of the signings. I think that would be a great move for United.

“They need someone who’s been there, seen it and done it at big clubs and can give sound, solid advice to Solskjaer.”

Make no mistake about it, United are in desperate need for a director of football. Ed Woodward has come under increasing, and understandable, scrutiny for his role in the club’s poor recruitment over the past few seasons, and that is a direct result of not having someone who is football-oriented making those decisions.

Having an ex-manager who has been around the block and can liaise with Solskjaer and discuss things on a football level, rather than on a business one, would pay huge dividends for the Red Devils.

As well as the added focus they would bring to the club’s recruitment strategy, they could play a major part in helping the United boss turn things around.

Solskjaer’s inexperience has been a stick to beat the Norwegian with since his permanent appointment, and so having an almost ‘mentor-like’ figure voice their thoughts and act as a sounding board would help streamline matters.

United need major help behind the scenes, and Hartson’s calls for a director of football are absolutely spot on.

Man City fans hail Ilkay Gundogan after midfield masterclass for Germany

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 for a fee in the region of £20m, Ilkay Gundogan has endured a mixed time at Manchester City.

The 28-year-old has shown flashes of the quality he possesses, but has also frustratingly disappointed too. In the shock 2-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League, some City fans flooded to Twitter to voice their anger and disappointment with the midfielder’s poor showing.

But the international break appears to have done Gundogan the world of good. The former Dortmund man scored twice and provided a further assist in Germany’s 3-0 win over Estonia on Sunday.

After watching the midfielder’s superb display in EURO 2020 qualifying action, City supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the matter.

Many Citizens fans hailed Gundogan for his performance, and one supporter in particular insisted he did a great job in “silencing those haters”.

Some even compared his display to Spain legend Xavi, and felt he is returning to peak form in a timely manner for the side.
