After the Mariners lost to the Athletics in Sacramento on Wednesday night, Seattle conducted one of the biggest trades ahead of the MLB deadline by securing third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Diamondbacks.

Suarez competed in a game vs. the Tigers in Detroit Wednesday afternoon, then seemingly hopped on a plane with his family to Sacramento to join his new squad. The Mariners' team plane was stationed at the airport in Sacramento for quite some time waiting for Suarez and his family to arrive. The Mariners players had no idea what the team was waiting on before leaving for Seattle.

Then Suarez and his family showed up. The entire plane cheered and Suarez went and hugged every player on the plane, Mariners insider Shannon Dryer, who was on the plane, detailed later. It was an emotional time for Suarez and the Mariners, especially as he was reuniting with many of his former teammates since he played in Seattle from 2022-23.

Suarez is already expected to be in Thursday night's Mariners lineup when the team faces the Rangers. Suarez will surely hear more cheers when he arrives at T-Mobile Park in front of thousands of fans.

Juan Soto would like to see Pete Alonso back in a Mets uniform next season.

Speaking with reporters at the MLB Awards in Las Vegas, Soto addressed the fact that Alonso is hitting free agency this offseason after opting out of a one-year, $24 million contract option with the Mets.

“I hope nothing but the best and I’m excited to see where he’s going to end up,” Soto said [via the Mike Puma]. “He’s one of the best power hitters in this generation. I really enjoyed my moment with him in a Mets uniform and I hope we can have more times to come.

“We can have fun together.”

Soto and Alonso did indeed have fun in the lineup in their first season together in New York. Soto shook off a slow start to the 2025 campaign and finished the year batting .263/.396/.525 with 43 homers, 105 RBIs and a career-high 38 stolen bases.

Alonso played all 162 games for a second straight year and batted .272/.347/.524 with a career-high 41 doubles and 38 home runs. He ranked in the top five percent of all MLB hitters in average exit velocity, barrel percentage and hard-hit percentage.

Alonso was also a free agent last offseason. When he didn’t find the long-term contract he was looking for on the open market, he signed a two-year, $54 million contract to return to the Mets with the aim to perform well, opt out of ‘25 and hit free agency again. One year later, MLB Trade Rumors predicts he’ll sign a four-year contract worth $110 million this offseason.

The Mets and their $342 million payroll missed out on a playoff berth by one game this past season thanks in large part to an eight-game losing streak in September. Soto is looking to right that wrong in 2026, and he’s hoping Alonso will be back in the heart of the Mets’ order along with him.

A newspaper in Spain claims to have a “bombshell” update regarding the future of Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo. They report he is expected to leave the Spanish club in 2026, with Manchester United in line to bid for him.

The Japanese starlet is also wanted by the likes of Tottenham and Everton, both of whom have shown an interest, and he may cost as little as £35m as Sociedad have decided to cash in for less than his release clause rather than risk his value plummeting any further after a run of bad form.

Kubo is a special talent who has even been dubbed the ‘new Messi’ in his homeland, while Zinedine Zidane also once spoke highly of him when was out on loan from Real Madrid, even though he failed to excel at the Santiago Bernabeu in the end.

Kubo is primarily a right winger, coming in onto his left foot like Mbeumo, and while fitting him into the team may not be easy, competition for places and elite squad depth can only bed a good thing for Amorim.

Still only 24, there is still so much more to come from the Japan star, and if United can pip others to his signature, they could have a future Old Trafford superstar on their hands, both on the pitch and in terms of marketing.

Everton’s chances of making a move for an England international have been revealed, with a January transfer potentially taking place.

Everton in need of more attacking firepower

The Blues were beaten 2-0 away to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with chances coming at a premium at the Eithad, and Erling Haaland’s two goals downing them.

For Everton striker Beto, it is now only one league goal in eight appearances this season, with James Tarkowski trying to show his support for him after the City game, having nearly found the net.

“I’ve just seen it back, to be fair. [Beto’s] movement is brilliant to get away from the defender; he just got a toe but just couldn’t get close enough to it.So he’s working very, very hard, Beto. He always has done and he always will, so he’s trying his best for us and I’m sure the goals will come soon.”

While there is much to be positive about for Everton under David Moyes this season, a lack of firepower is an issue, with only nine goals scored in their eight league matches in 2025/26 to date.For that reason, a new striker could be looked at when the January transfer window rolls around, and a key update has emerged in that respect.

Everton backed to sign England international Ivan Toney

Writing for The i Paper [via Goodison News], journalist Daniel Storey backed Everton to potentially sign Ivan Toney in January, with the 29-year-old currently plying his trade at Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

“The answer – what about Ivan Toney in January? West Ham are very keen, but if I were Toney I’d be very enthused about having chances created by Grealish et al and giving me an outside run at a World Cup place next summer.”

Toney would be an intriguing choice for Everton, even if it was only a loan signing, with the former Brentford man surely eyeing a place in England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

His chances of being selected in the squad will only be enhanced if he returns to the Premier League, given the down down in quality in the Saudi Pro League, and it is easy to see him flourishing under Moyes, having been lauded by City manager Pep Guardiola in the past.

“He is so dangerous. He’s a master at using his body for the second ball… Good finishing. You can link with him; he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen (at that hold-up play).”

تلقت النيابة العامة عدة بلاغات بشأن موضوع أرض نادي الزمالك الكائنة بمنطقة السادس من أكتوبر بمحافظة الجيزة.

وإذ باشرت النيابة العامة التحقيقات في هذه البلاغات، وقد كشفت عن عدد من الحقائق، وذلك على النحو الآتي:

أولا: خصصت الأرض لنادي الزمالك منذ عام 2003، وقد سحبت منه أكثر من مرة؛ لعدم الجدية في التنفيذ وعدم الالتزام بشروط إعادتها، وكان آخر سحب للأرض المخصصة في عام 2020.

وأخيرًا، جرى إمهال النادي مدة عامين لتنفيذ الإنشاءات بالكامل، تنتهي في 3/4/2024.

وبإجراء المعاينة من قبل هيئة المجتمعات العمرانية الجديدة، تبين أن نسبة التنفيذ لا تجاوز 2% فقط من إجمالي الإنشاءات.

فتقدم النادي بطلب جديد لزيادة مساحة المباني، مع طلب مدة تنفيذ أخرى تمتد لأربع سنوات فكان قرار الهيئة ضرورة الحصول على موافقة رئاسة الجمهورية؛ لعدم التزام النادي بشرط إتمام البناء في المدة الممنوحة من قبل الرئاسة.

ثانيا: قبل صدور موافقة الرئاسة، أو صدور تراخيص بالإنشاءات من هيئة المجتمعات العمرانية الجديدة، قام النادي ببيع أجزاء من المباني قبل إنشائها إلى جهات رسمية تعد أموالها من الأموال العامة، ونشاطها بعيد عن النشاط الرياضي للنادي، وتحصل من تلك الجهات على مبالغ قدرت بنحو 780 مليون جنيه، جار فحص ما آلت إليه هذه المبالغ، بما يُشكل شبهة إهدار للمال العام.

ثالثا: بناء على ما تقدم، جرى ندب لجنة من خبراء إدارة الكسب غير المشروع والأموال العامة لفحص هذه الوقائع، وسيعلن عن نتائج أعمالها فور ورود التقرير.

وتؤكد النيابة العامة أنها لم تتوان عن اتخاذ كافة الإجراءات اللازمة لصون المال العام، والتصدي لشبهات الفساد في ظل دولة القانون التي تشهد تفعيلا غير مسبوق.

Aaron Boone is in the process of rapidly backtracking his latest update of Aaron Judge's injury.

On Tuesday, the New York Yankees manager went on WFAN and said superstar Aaron Judge's throwing could be compromised for the rest of the season due to a right elbow injury.

"I don’t think we’re going to see him back to throwing like he normally does at any point this year, but that’s OK, too," Boone said. "We’ve got to feel like he can go out there and be able to protect himself and represent himself."

Judge seemed puzzled by those comments later in the day. The two-time AL MVP said, "I don't know why he said that. He hasn't seen me throw for the past two weeks, so I'm pretty confident I'll get back to [100 percent]."

For his part, Boone then admitted he may have gone overboard with his comments on WFAN saying, "Maybe I overstated that."

So it's unclear whether we'll see Judge throwing normally this season or not.

Aaron Judge Elbow Injury Timeline

Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list with a flexor strain on July 27 after initially injuring it on July 22. Luckily for the Yankees, there was no damage to the 33-year-old slugger's ulnar collateral ligament, so he avoided Tommy John surgery.

On August 5, Judge returned to New York's lineup and has been working solely as the team's designated hitter since. He has not looked like his usual self since coming off the IL. While he does have an OPS of .854 in those 11 games, he's only hitting .229 with two home runs and six RBIs.

The injury put a damper on what has been another incredible season for Judge. He currently leads all of MLB in batting average (.333), on-base percentage (.447), slugging percentage (.687), OPS (1.134), WAR (6.9), fWAR (7.4), and wRC+ (200). He's a shoo-in to win his third MVP.

Judge seems confident he'll be able to return to the field this season and now it sounds like someone clued his manager in to that fact.

As you can see, just two of the last 10 World Series winners ranked outside the top-10 in terms of total payroll.

When was the last time a small-market team won the World Series?

While no one would consider the Astros, who went on to enjoy a dynastic run in the 2010s and 2020s, an underdog, the club was technically the last low budget team to win the World Series (cheating controversy aside), given its small payroll in comparison to the rest of the league. Similarly, the Royals made it to the World Series in 2014 but lost with just a $98.5 million payroll, then captured a championship the following season with the 13th-ranked payroll. But the greatest example of all, and perhaps one of the biggest upsets in World Series history, was the 2003 Florida Marlins. The Marlins, who had the 25th-ranked payroll at $49.0 million, toppled the mighty Yankees, who had baseball's highest payroll at $157.2 million.

There have also been instances of small-market teams making a valiant run to the World Series, only to fall just short. The 2006 Tigers (14th-ranked payroll), the 2007 Rockies (25th), the 2008 Rays (29th) and 2010 Rangers (27th) are all such examples.

So, while having an expensive, talent-laden roster certainly is a big factor in winning the World Series—especially in recent history—it's not the only factor. In baseball, sometimes, the have-nots can surprise the haves.
