Leeds fans speculate as Christiansen refuses to discuss Lasogga absence

According to BBC Sports broadcaster Adam Pope on Twitter, Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen refused to discuss the absence of striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga following the 4-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night, and Whites fans have been speculating on what has happened.

The Hamburg loanee missed the win against Middlesbrough on Sunday through illness, but when Christiansen was asked for an update on the 25-year-old, he said he only wanted to talk about the players available to him.

It is certainly a comment that has raised suspicions among the Elland Road faithful, with the German centre-forward having something of an up and down start to his career with the Yorkshire outfit.

Leeds supporters were quick to have their say on latest Christiansen’s comments via social media, and while one said “I have a gut feeling he doesn’t want to play for us”, another said it “feels like Lasogga has played his last game for us”.

In Focus: Theo Walcott’s contract decision suggests he won’t leave in January

According to reports in The Times, Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has postponed talks over a new deal until the end of the season, as he continues to struggle for Premier League game time.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the 28-year-old has just 18 months left on his contract but his lack of minutes in the English top flight this term mean that he will wait until next summer to decide his future rather than committing to a new deal now, according to The Times.

After scoring one and assisting three in Arsenal’s 6-0 win against BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night, the wide-man admitted that he was frustrated that he hadn’t been given many opportunities in the Premier League, and he has been linked with moves to former club Southampton, West Ham United and Everton in recent weeks.

How has Walcott done this season?

Well, despite scoring 19 goals in 37 appearances last term the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette during the summer and the fact that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil both stayed means that the 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order.

However, while he has played just 46 minutes of Premier League football he has been a regular in the Gunners’ Europa League campaign and has four goals and five assists in 11 outings in all competitions.

Could he go in January?

It may depend on what happens in the next couple of weeks.

Unless Lacazette, Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck pick up injuries or suspensions then it is difficult to see Walcott being handed a start any time soon.

With the World Cup just over six months away, the winger may feel that if he is playing regularly elsewhere they he may have the opportunity to regain his place in the England squad before Russia.

If West Ham, Southampton or Everton firm up their interest and make a bid then the 28-year-old may be keen to speak to them, but Arsene Wenger may not let him go if fellow contract rebels Sanchez or Ozil do leave in the New Year.

Newcastle United fans baffled about coming second to Arsenal’s Emirates in stadium vote

Newcastle United supporters are known to be one of the most passionate fanbases in England.

The North-East outfit are housed at St James’ Park – a ground that seats more than 52,000 and has been staging Newcastle matches since 1892.

Nowadays, clubs are trying to establish themselves as football heavyweights by building larger, more modern and high-tech grounds.

The traditionalism of Newcastle, though, is why St James’ Park is a revered stadium across the country.

In a poll conducted by Footballgroundguide.com, the Magpies’ home was voted as second-favourite ground in England.

It is quite some feat considering that the survey included all 92 stadia, but the fans are disappointed not to have come first.

Arsenal’s Emirates stadium was voted the best, which some Newcastle supporters have been left baffled by.

Manchester United’s ‘theatre of dreams’ Old Trafford came in third place, while interestingly Fulham’s home of Craven Cottage and Aston Villa’s Villa Park base were voted fourth and fifth respectively.

Stamford Bridge, which is the home of Chelsea, missed out on the top 10, but Anfield (Liverpool) and the Etihad Stadium (Manchester City) made the cut.

Tottenham fans want Llorente gone after agent comments

Tottenham fans are bashing Fernando Llorente, after the striker’s agent took a rather bizarre dig at the club.

It’s becoming the one problem Mauricio Pochettino can’t solve at Tottenham. Find a striker who is happy to play second fiddle to Harry Kane, but good enough to make a proper impact when called upon.

Vincent Janssen was a major flop, but the Dutchman’s age may tempt Pochettino to give him another chance, despite an unsuccessful loan spell with Fenerbahce.

Last year’s backup striker certainly won’t be getting another chance though, as Llorente’s agent spoke out about the links to Napoli.

“We’re talking about a top club, so it would really be a great honour,” he said.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”269905″ player=”12034″ title=”Football’s Coming Home The Myth Behind ‘Three Lions'”]

“We absolutely won’t renew with Tottenham.”

The veteran Spaniard didn’t exactly earn the right to a new contract during his season in North London anyway, grabbing just one Premier League goal in 16 appearances, and three of his five total goals coming in a cup match against Rochdale.

Pochettino has to decide whether to continue experimenting with Heung-min Son up front this season or to bring in a new striker to support Kane, but it seems it certainly won’t be Llorente after the rather unnecessary comments.

Revealed: Majority of Newcastle fans back Origi to make an impact at St James’ Park

Last season, Newcastle United managed to retain their Premier League status, but they struggled to impress in front of goal.

Dwight Gayle, Joselu and loan signing Islam Slimani failed to deliver, while Aleksander Mitrovic was sent to Fulham on a temporary deal.

With that in mind, it would make sense for Newcastle to jump into the summer market with a new attacker in mind.

One who could potentially attract at interest is Liverpool forward Divock Origi, who has struggled for game time at Anfield.

The Belgium international, who has earned 25 caps for his country, has been with the Reds since 2015 but he has only hit the back of the net 12 times in the Premier League.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”271323″ player=”12034″ title=”Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus on Football Manager”]

Origi spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, where he scored seven times.

Given that the forward is likely to be sitting on the sidelines for the majority of Liverpool’s campaign this season, the Merseyside outfit may be open to a loan, or even a sale.

We asked you whether Newcastle should try to lure Origi to St James’ Park, and the majority of fans are welcome to the idea.

Newcastle fans react to N’Koulou speculation

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United have joined West Ham United in the hunt to sign Torino centre-back Nicolas N’Koulou in this summer’s transfer window.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Torino before joining the Italian outfit on a permanent deal earlier this summer.

There is believed to be a lot of interest surrounding the central defender, which is not a surprise when considering his performances last season.

A 72-time Cameroon international, N’Koulou started his professional career with Monaco, and made 78 league appearances for the principality outfit before joining Marseille – where he featured on more than 200 occasions.

The defender has a fine pedigree in the game, and it would be some signing if Newcastle managed to pull it off.

However, the English club’s supporters are already doubting a move for the 6ft ace due to the finances that would be involved.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the frustrated Newcastle fans can be seen below:

West Ham must make shock Romain Saiss move if Wolves sign Andre Gomes

According to an exclusive report by TEAMtalk, Wolverhampton Wanderers could follow up the confirmed signing of Joao Moutinho on Tuesday by moving for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, and their Premier League rivals West Ham United should be watching developments closely.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Wolves announced that the experienced Moutinho had joined on Tuesday to strengthen manager Nuno Santo’s options in the middle of the park, and now it seems as though he wants Barca man Gomes too, as per TEAMtalk.

TEAMtalk report that the Portugal international could cost £35m however, and it remains to be seen whether the newly-promoted team are willing to splash that much cash on him, even with their high ambitions and help from super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Should they seal an audacious swoop for Gomes, the 24-year-old would be competing for a spot in the XI alongside the likes of Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Romain Saiss and Pedro Goncalves.

Why should West Ham be monitoring the situation?

Well, while the Irons have been busy at work strengthening a number of different positions during the summer transfer window thus far, they are still yet to bring in the defensive midfielder they desperately looked to need following the end of a disappointing 2017/18 campaign.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini, who must sign a 6ft 2in Manchester United star once the Red Devils seal a big-money deal, will surely be aware of the situation, and with Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate both linked with exits, the Chilean manager could step up his search in the coming days.

Saiss, who is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a centre-back when needed – as he did for Morocco at the 2018 World Cup – shone for Wolves as they won promotion to the Premier League last term, and there is no doubt that the powerful 6ft 3in tall enforcer would bring a lot to the middle of the park for the east London outfit.

Kieran Gibbs would be a great choice for Newcastle United

Newcastle are on the hunt to add a few players before the window closes in order to give Rafa Benitez a strong enough squad to survive in the league.

The next few days in the window are going to be crucial in deciding the fate of the club next season. After a surprisingly good season last year where the Magpies finished 10th, Mike Ashley needs to provide Benitez with some reinforcements before the deadline.

One area Newcastle need to strengthen desperately is at left-back where at the moment Benitez has Paul Dummett as his likely starter for the opening game of the season.

As a backup, Benitez does have Achraf Lazaar but the club should consider signing West Brom left-back Kieran Gibbs.

According to Italian football expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, Torino are interested in signing the former Arsenal man but if Mike Ashley is smart, he should consider snapping up Gibbs.

The Breakdown

After a fairly underrated career at Arsenal, Gibbs joined West Brom last summer and although the club was relegated last season, Gibbs actually had a good season.

At 28, the defender still has a few years left in his prime and could be a great alternative if Newcastle fail to sign Joe Bryan or Nicolas Tagliafico.

With West Brom down in the Championship, offering Gibbs the chance to come back to the Premier League would surely be enough to tempt him away. Furthermore, the defender’s experience in the top division could be crucial to Benitez.

Huge majority of QPR fans don’t want to see Luke Freeman leave this summer

QPR midfielder Luke Freeman has been a transfer target for Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion this summer, according to The Mirror.

The 26-year-old moved to Loftus Road from Bristol City in January 2017 and has since become a key player and fan favourite, making 61 league appearances for the Rs.

He had a strong return last season, scoring five goals and assisting 12 and averaging an impressive 2.4 key passes per game.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”275149″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Zlatan Richarlison & Alisson”]

According to a recent report in The Evening Standard, QPR are prepared to sell their star player for £3million this summer, making a big profit on the £350,000 they spent to bring him to Loftus Road.

We asked QPR fans in a poll whether they would sell Freeman this summer and the results clearly show that they don’t want to lose their key man.

A whopping 88 per cent of fans want to keep Freeman at the club this summer, showing what Steve McClaren must do to keep the supporters happy this summer.
