Everton fans stunned by Richarlison debut

Loads of Everton fans have been giving their verdict on the draw at Wolves, and they can’t quite believe how good Richarlison looked.

Although he came off late on with a slight knock, Richarlison was undoubtedly the man of the match in the Sunday evening clash at Molineux, rivalled only by Ruben Neves.

The Brazilian has taken loads of flak on social media for his transfer fee, which could rise as high as £50m.

He put all those doubts to rest on Saturday evening though, carrying a depleted Everton side through the storm at Wolves.

The home side took the initiative after the break thanks to Phil Jagielka’s red card, but Richarlison popped up with a wonderful finish, curling the ball around a defender and out of the reach of Rui Patricio.

That was his second goal of the game after he had stabbed home the opener in the first half, and fans are heaping praise on their big money signing.

Silva got the best out of the Brazilian at Watford, and it’s already looking like a stroke of genius to give him another chance to impress at Goodison.

Rangers re-signing Charlie Adam would be bizarre move from Gerrard

Rangers showed interest in re-signing Charlie Adam from Stoke City earlier this summer, according to The Telegraph.

What’s the word?

The Scottish Premiership is up and running, but clubs in the region still have time to get some transfers over the line.

One link that has come out of the blue is an alleged return to Ibrox for Charlie Adam.

The Scotsman spent six years playing for the Gers before joining Blackpool in 2009.

Adam went on to have a year-long spell at Liverpool before signing for Stoke, where he has been ever since 2012.

However, the midfielder has dropped down the pecking order and is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bet365 Stadium.

The Telegraph claims that Rangers expressed an interest in signing Adam earlier in the window, but the likelihood of a deal coming to pass is slim.

Should Gerrard revisit this?

At the age of 32, Adam is edging closer towards the latter stages of his career, and while having experience is important in a side, he is not right for the Gers at this moment.

Gerrard is aiming to create an exciting team that can challenge the dominance of Celtic.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”278881″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Kane’s Kryptonite & London’s Biggest Losers”]

Adam made just 11 Premier League appearances for Stoke last season, and five were starts.

The midfielder could be rusty, and he does not have the ability to change a game from the centre of the park.

Gerrard should be considering other targets.

Deal for Morteza Pouraliganji makes complete sense for Leeds

Although the permanent transfer market is now closed, Leeds could well still be in the hunt to add some more recruits to Bielsa’s squad.

Leeds have been outstanding so far this season and have already beaten Championship contenders Stoke and Derby.

Under Bielsa, the squad has been playing some great attacking football led by the likes of Kemar Roofe and Samu Saiz.

At the back, the Yorkshire club have also been strong and have so far only conceded two goals in the league.

However, despite that impressive defensive record Bielsa is still on the lookout to add another defender as the club only have three out and out centre-backs on their books at the moment.

According to the Tasnim News Agency, Leeds are interested in signing Iranian defender, Morteza Pouraliganji.

The defender has left Qatar side Al Sadd following a very impressive World Cup.

The Breakdown

The report states that Morteza Pouraliganji had been close to a move to the Turkish side, Trabzonspor but a move failed to materialise.

A versatile player, Pouraliganji can also play as a defensive and central midfielder, and it’s that versatility that could attract the attention of Bielsa.

The defender is out of contract at the moment, and therefore Leeds are in no rush to sign him.

With Leeds short of some numbers at the back, and following the Iranian’s impressive performances at the World Cup a cheap deal for him could be a shrewd piece of business for the club.

What do you think about this move Leeds fans?

HYS: Should Manchester United target James Rodriguez?

One of the clear missing links in Jose Mourinho’s squad at Manchester United is the lack of an elite level creator.

Juan Mata is a perfectly serviceable playmaker, but he is not of a world-class standard, and at 30 years of age is coming towards the end of his peak years. Jesse Lingard is a very solid, versatile and dynamic squad option, but he isn’t amongst the game’s finest in his position.

If United want to return to the very top of the game, and once again be capable of challenging for Champions League and Premier League crowns, then they need a top class individual to operate in the number 10 role at Old Trafford.

[ad_pod ]

The Red Devils can boast a wonderful array of attacking talents, such as Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. However, without the services of a great creative midfielder to thrive upon, their potential is lessened.

All of United’s domestic rivals have at least one creative figurehead who could be considered amongst the world’s best. Manchester City have David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne; Chelsea have Eden Hazard; Arsenal have Mesut Ozil; Spurs have Christian Eriksen.

In order to acquire their own player in this mould, United should target the signature of James Rodriguez, rated at £72m by Transfermarkt.

The Colombian star is currently on loan from Real Madrid with Bayern Munich, and has demonstrated some fine form in the Bundesliga. He certainly has the potential to take the Premier League by storm too.

What do you think, United fans? If you agree that you need a new creative maestro, would you like to see your club make James that man?

Colossal Clark could be worth his weight in gold for Newcastle

Newcastle fell to a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday without arguably their two best players, but fans can take a lot of optimism from the performance of Ciaran Clark.

Newcastle fans were stunned when the club released the line-up for the clash with Chelsea, as it did not feature Jamaal Lascelles or Jonjo Shelvey.

The confusion only increased, as the club’s official word on Lascelles was an ankle injury, but multiple reports claimed the defender has argued with Rafael Benitez in training.

No matter the cause, the Toon Army would certainly be worried about facing any spell of games without their skipper, but the performance of Clark should at least settle the nerves around St. James’ Park.

The Irish defender, who played 34 Championship games the season before last, fell out of favour last year as he simply wasn’t up to the standard that Lascelles and Florian Lejeune were playing at.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”280645″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Dodgy De Gea & Arsenal’s MiniRevolution”]

Lejeune’s injury and Lascelles’ mysterious absence opened the door for a return though, as the 29-cap Republic of Ireland international started alongside two new signings in a back three.

Clark certainly wasn’t perfect, but the 28 year-old did everything he could to keep the Blues at bay, winning three aerial duels and three tackles.

His three aerial duels were the joint-most of any player, and he also made a remarkable eight clearances, the most of anyone on the pitch.

The Magpies signed Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez late on in the transfer window, so if Clark can keep up his form they will actually have some quality depth behind Lascelles when he returns.

The lack of depth at full back is still a major concern, but Clark’s performance on Sunday showed he is ready and waiting when called upon.

So, Newcastle fans, were you impressed by Clark on Sunday? Should he start alongside Lascelles when everyone is fit? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

West Ham fans want Pellegrini out after Wolves horror show

Loads of West Ham fans have been giving their verdict on the 1-0 defeat to Wolves, and they’re already starting to lose patience with Manuel Pellegrini.

It’s not the type of record he would have wanted to break, but Pellergini is now the first West Ham manager to lose his first four Premier League games since Avram Grant.

The Chilean’s arrival brought a new sense of optimism at the club, and the owners did their part by backing him in the transfer market.

It was some of the old guard that started out against Wolves though, as both Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass had poor performances while new signing Andriy Yarmolenko was left on the bench.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”285457″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Theatre Of Screams & The Serb As Good As Salah”]

The Hammers were sluggish and wasteful in possession, created very few chances, and looked vulnerable to counter attacks as they have done in every match so far.

Adama Traore’s late goal gave the visitors all three points, and the Hammers now travel to undefeated Everton before a home clash with red hot Chelsea.

Pontus Jansson reveals why he rejected chance to leave

Leeds United managed to offload a number of their fringe players this summer as Marcelo Bielsa drastically changed his new side, however, they could have lost one of their key men as well.

According to a report by Fotbollskanalen, Pontus Jansson has revealed that he came very close to leaving the Elland Road outfit to join FC Krasnodar in Russia.

The Sweden international has stated that he had weighed up the possibilities of a move across Europe after being told that he would have had a huge contract to replace fellow countryman Andreas Granqvist.

However, he also admitted that he could not quit on Leeds and believed the new project under Bielsa, as well as becoming a father again, outweighed any chance of him leaving Yorkshire.

“It just did not feel right,” he told Fotbollskanalen.

“I’ll be a daddy in a month so I weighed it up. Clearly there was a lot of money and it would have secured my future, but the sporting project with Leeds and (Marcelo) Bielsa and this outweighed it. But it was not an easy decision. Krasnodar really wanted to replace Granqvist with me. It was really close, I thought about it, but I did not feel right.

“I wanted to finish with Leeds. I had a heavy season with the team last year and I did not want to finish my love like that.”

The Verdict:

Leeds will be delighted that Jansson had decided to turn down a big-money deal to Russia and remain with them for the Championship season.

The Swede has been crucial to their efforts over the past couple of years and is clearly a favourite with the fans at Elland Road.

The sporting reason that Jansson cited with Leeds looks to have paid off for him with Bielsa already appearing to have an impact on the side and has already taken them to the top of the Championship table as they head into the international break.

Revealed: 58% of Liverpool fans want Rabiot signing

Loads of Liverpool fans have been discussing the reported interest in Adrien Rabiot, but fans are split on which midfielder they should sign.

[ad_pod ]

According to ESPN, Liverpool have made contact with the mother and agent of PSG star Rabiot.

The 23 year-old has rejected multiple contract offers from the French champions, and his current deal with expire next summer.

The report from ESPN even claims that Jürgen Klopp has personally contacted the player, as the Reds boss seeks to make his midfield as lethal as his attack.

While getting Rabiot on a free signing would be a bargain, Klopp might be better served swooping for Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Amadou Haidara, as he fits the profile of a Klopp midfielder much more than Rabiot.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”288872″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafas Pub Facts Murray The Magician & Desperately Seeking Zaha”]

Haidara has been linked in the past with a move to replace Naby Keita in Leipzig, and his mixture of athleticism, tenacity, technique and vision would fit right in with Liverpool’s developing midfield.

Fans are split on which one they should move for, as the slight majority opted for the more experienced Rabiot, and you can find the full poll results down below…

Ajax set huge £62.3m asking price for Spurs target De Jong

Tottenham Hotspur will have to splash a whopping €80m (£62.3m) on Frenkie De Jong to convince Ajax into a sale, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the word?

Mauricio Pochettino failed to add a single new face to his Tottenham squad in the summer transfer window but appears to be ready to rectify that error in January, as his side continue to be linked with midfield additions.

Ajax’s highly-rated Netherlands international Frenkie De Jong is reported to be in Pochettino’s sights but Spurs will have to pay an astronomical fee to bring the 21-year-old to the Premier League as Mundo Deportivo states Ajax are seeking a fee of €80m (£62.3m) for his services.

Such a fee would see Tottenham smash their club-record fee, which currently stands at the £36m fee paid for Davinson Sanchez according to TransferMarkt, and may not be possible to offer due to the financial implications of their imminent stadium move.

One to avoid?

Frenkie De Jong’s reputation across Europe and the fact Pochettino boasts an incredible record of getting the very best out of young talents is certainly enough to excite Spurs fans but there is a number of reasons why a swoop should be avoided.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”292154″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FFC Accy Show Real football is back with our PL & EFL accumulators”]

Firstly, Tottenham simply cannot afford to splash so much on one player, particularly due to their stadium move, and would be better off breaking those numbers up into smaller deals to bolster the squad in other areas.

Secondly, a host of top-sides across Europe, including Barcelona, are also said to be monitoring the Ajax academy graduate and the Eredivisie side will be keen for a bidding war to develop in order to drive up the midfielder’s price-tag.

Finally, Spurs could get better players for that sort of price and should only part with a sum that high if it is for a player who would immediately bolster Pochettino’s starting XI.

West Ham have no desire to sell in January

West Ham are not looking to sell players in January despite spending over £100m in the summer window, according to Claret & Hugh.

What’s the word?

Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure at West Ham started with a vast spending spree that saw the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson arrive for a total of over £100m but the Hammers do not need to balance the books.

Claret & Hugh states that West Ham’s plan was to have at least two strong options in each position and, as such, there is currently nobody that remains in the squad that the Hammers are looking to offload in the New Year.

That means exits for the likes of Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll, Michail Antonio and Pedro Obiang appear to be off the cards, although this could be impacted by Pellegrini’s own activity in January.

Who could go?

While the report states that there is no new names on the list of players West Ham want to offload, it specifically points out that both Jordan Hugill and Edimilson Fernandes could still depart as their loan deals include first refusal clauses.

[ffc_insert title=”Check out the Big Interview with Ben Dinnery & Johnny Wilson” name=”Fixture In Focus Podcast Special” image_ link=”https://fixtureinfocus.podiant.co/e/369d9b4fb86294/” link_text=”Click here to play”]

Hugill returned to the Championship to join promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough and has so far made three appearances for the club, failing to find the net, while Fernandes has featured twice in Serie A for Fiorentina.

Both players are deemed to be surplus to requirements but permanent exits in January are still unlikely as their loan deals run until the end of the season.

Could this change?

Yes, certainly. Pellegrini is likely to dip into the market once again to freshen up his squad in January and, assuming the focus of having two strong players in each position is kept to, then it’s likely any new arrivals will lead to departures.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”297163″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts MythBusting Rashford & Spurs Headache”]

Rotation has already been crucial to Pellegrini’s side in the early stages of the season though, as WhoScored data shows all the fit senior players in the squad have played at least once so far in the Premier League.

Whether that remains to be the case in the coming months though remains to be seen as West Ham may settle into a more established XI if they can build a run of form, having ended their winless streak against Everton last time out.
